Responding to the latest government announcement to get Britain Building, Jonny Haseldine, Head of Business Environment Policy at the BCC, said:
“Businesses will be encouraged to see the Government taking steps to accelerate housebuilding across the country, enabling homes to be built quickly, where they’re most needed.
“But this new housing must be delivered along with new or updated infrastructure to support it, including the sufficient supply of land for business use.
“Smaller companies can play a vital role in the construction supply chains for their regions, enabling these projects to be delivered by local talent. But whilst these measures are very much welcome, there must also be greater action to boost the number of town planners to reduce bottlenecks in the planning system.
“The BCC’s Planning Skills Fund offers a route for firms, colleges, local authorities and central government to do this in partnership, at pace.”
