Chamber Business Awards 2024: Northumbrian Water wins People and Work Award

As part of the British Chambers of Commerce’s annual Chamber Business Awards 2024, a Durham based firm has been chosen as the People and Work Business of the Year.  

The awards, now in their 21st year, are one of the showpieces of the business calendar, highlighting the role of firms in delivering growth, prosperity and innovation across the UK.  

The People and Work Award, recognises a business that prioritises diversity and inclusion, while recruiting, retraining and retaining a skilled workforce – improving business performance by embedding these values into its culture.  

Northumbrian Water, a member of North East Chamber of Commerce, won the award after impressing judges with their innovative approach to recruitment and retention actively targeting diverse areas for talent acquisition.  

The company provides water and sewage services to 2.7 million people in the North East of England. The firm has an extensive series of programmes to support current staff and improve diverse recruitment. They include a digital platform for employees to help improve job accessibility and skills development, Innovate Futures and Aspiring Managers programme, alongside a large number of internal diversity and inclusion networks. The commitment to a positive work environment has resulted in Northumbrian Water being awarded Great Place to Work Certified Employer Status for the fourth time.
