Jonny Haseldine, Head of Business Environment Policy at the British Chambers of Commerce said:
“Millions of households are facing higher energy costs from today as the new price cap kicks in.
“But it’s crucial to remember that businesses are facing some of the highest energy costs in the developed world.
“Our most recent research showed that 56% of firms were under pressure to raise their prices because of utility costs.
“The government is introducing some welcome help for energy intensive firms. But urgent action is needed to help all businesses.
“We’re calling for the Chancellor to cut bills for business by funding 75% of the Renewables Obligation in the short term to give business breathing room.
“In the medium to long-term, it must accelerate the energy transition in a way that protects jobs – that means giving the green light to Jackdaw and Rosebank.”
