As part of the British Chambers of Commerce’s annual Chamber Business Awards 2023, a telecommunications company which has almost doubled in size in the last two years has been chosen as the Rapid Riser of the year.
The awards, now in their 20th year, are one of the showpieces of the business calendar, highlighting the role of firms in delivering growth and prosperity across the UK.
The Rapid Riser award recognises the work of an organisation that has demonstrated exceptional levels of growth with a strong plan for sustainable financial performance.
Fibrus, is on a mission to bring full fibre broadband to digitally deprived and underserved areas of the UK.
Established in 2019, it now has more than 450 staff, hiring more than 200 people since January 2022, and continuing to expand at a rate of 20 new employees per month. They have connected more than 250,000 homes to broadband since their inception.
The business, a member of the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry, have recently secured a contract for Project Gigabit to connect 60,000 homes in Cumbria. They also plan to connect more than one million homes across England and Northern Ireland and are assessing opportunities in Scotland.
Sarah Howard, Chair of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said:
“It’s not only Fibrus’s impressive growth that has won it the rapid riser award but also the scale of its impact in communities. The network connectivity it provides drastically improves the ability of rural areas to retain talent, foster entrepreneurship, and allow businesses to grow. They are worthy winners.”
