As part of the British Chambers of Commerce’s annual Chamber Business Awards 2023, a pair of old university friends are celebrating after winning the Problem Solver award.
The awards, now in their 20th year, are one of the showpieces of the business calendar, highlighting the role of firms in delivering growth and prosperity for the UK and local communities.
The Problem Solver award recognises the work of a business that has transformed the market that they operate in with their product, in order to gain a strong position in their market.
Concrete Canvas has revolutionised the cement industry after inventing completely new forms of the material to access new markets and drive growth. They have invented new forms of concrete with a much lower carbon footprint and developed a new product, called CCX, designed to greatly reduce water loss in large irrigation canals.
The business, a member of Chamber Wales (South East, South West, and Mid), started trading in 2005 and now employs 46 people.
Sarah Howard, Chair of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said:
“Concrete Canvas has shown a consistent ability to identify problems and innovate solutions that are not only cost effective for their clients and generate profit – but also have wide scale potential to reduce CO2 emissions. They’ve genuinely impacted the market with their products and services, as evidenced by their success, and are deserved winners.”
