CBAM Consultancy Service

Supporting Businesses with CBAM Compliance

The BCC, through its customs and trade team, ChamberCustoms, offers a unique CBAM Consultancy Service that is helping businesses adapt to the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

CBAM, introduced in 2023, applies to EU importers bringing in carbon-intensive products such as cement, iron & steel, aluminium, fertilisers, and hydrogen. These importers are legally required to report the embedded carbon emissions of their imported goods, which means UK exporters must provide accurate emissions data to their EU customers who have a responsibility to accurately report the carbon content of their imported goods.

Although EU importers hold the legal responsibility for compliance, businesses must supply accurate emissions data to avoid disruptions in trade and to retain their customer base.

From July 2024, EU importers must use actual emissions data instead of default values wherever possible. UK businesses must be prepared to:

  • Provide detailed carbon emissions reporting for their exported products.
  • Ensure both direct and indirect emissions are accounted for.
  • Prevent delays, penalties, or loss of business due to non-compliance.

Failure to prepare may lead to increased compliance costs for EU importers, potentially making UK products less attractive in the EU market.

The BCC’s CBAM consultancy service equips exporters with the tools and insights needed to comply with these evolving requirements. Our expert consultants guide businesses through understanding, calculating, and reporting their carbon emissions in line with the latest CBAM regulations.

  • Ensure your EU customers remain compliant, maintaining strong trade relationships.
  • Reduce the compliance burden on your EU importers, keeping your products competitive.
  • Identify emission reduction opportunities, potentially lowering costs under CBAM.
  • Deepen your understanding for where you could adapt your supply chain to reduce embedded carbon.
  • Prepare for upcoming UK CBAM legislation, expected from 2027.

Our Service Includes:

  • On-site/ remote assessment
  • Process analysis
  • Customised reporting framework
  • An initial 12-month licence to the CBAM software that we use to map your processes and embedded carbon in your finished products.
