Zudu -
Digital Revolution Business of the Year

“Over the last year, Zudu has seen incredible growth, marking their best financial year to date (with 43% increase in turnover YoY), achieving both ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certifications, celebrating their 10th year in business…”
Zudu, members of Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, is a full-service app and web development agency headquartered in Dundee and operating worldwide.
Over the last year, Zudu has seen incredible growth, marking their best financial year to date (with 43% increase in turnover YoY), achieving both ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certifications, celebrating their 10th year in business, and reaching the final stage of the highly competitive CivTech Accelerator Programme.
Through CivTech, Zudu designed and developed the MVP for ePass – a market-first, software-as-a-service (SaaS) product that provides a modern and scalable approach to digital licencing. While the software is flexible for white labelling in any industry, its first use case will power the new Register of Tobacco and Nicotine Vapour Product Retailers. ePass was created in Dundee – highlighting the city as the innovative hub delivering this revolutionary, industry-first product and creating 3 additional local jobs in month 1, with more recruitment ongoing as the project progresses.
Using modern development practices and Zudu’s experience working in B2B, ePass is built for the future – implementing sustainable development practices and using backend technologies from net-zero pledged suppliers such as AWS to minimise the product’s carbon footprint. Zudu have also pledged to work with conservation companies to offset carbon emissions – aligning with Scotland’s net-zero goals and the target of becoming smoke-free by 2030.
The web-based platform creates a simple registration flow for applicants that includes relevant checks at each stage – cross-referencing data using integrations with Companies House amongst others to check data for accuracy and validity. Fully compliant applications will be accepted automatically, whereas all others will be passed on for human review, reducing administrative burden. The system’s analytics will also monitor registrations and enforcement officer checks, and in later stages will also incorporate elearning to reinforce continuous education for licence holders.
On the admin side, the registration flow can be adapted to legislative changes by enabling or disabling components within ePass, making it easier to manage the registration flows without development knowledge or external support. This reduces the need for additional syst ems and manual labour, further addressing the digital skills gap by making technology more accessible and creating work opportunities for more diverse users. Alongside this, ePass creates a single hub for updates, helping less technical prospective and existing licence holders to comply with legislation and removing barriers to entry. Through this approach, ePass will support the enforcement of the ban on single-use vapes in Scotland.
ePass is a game-changing innovation that modernises and streamlines application processes while ensuring data safety and GDPR compliance – addressing the security issues with existing market solutions that contain incomplete records as data is passed between systems. ePass also addresses multiple public and private sector struggles as legislation is always evolving and keeping registers up to date, users engaged, and providing support and training can become difficult. As such, ePass has the opportunity to address the 448 licences and registrations issued by UK governments, secondly targeting the private sectors for digital identity, construction, and transportation.

Company Growth
On the back of the success of the brewery site and events, Dal then set his sights on expanding both the range of products on offer and the footprint of the business. In December 2021, Dal agreed a 20-year lease on Christchurch Spire in Coventry city centre. The unique venue serves Dhillon’s beers and ales on tap, as well as offering hot drinks and food, to create a family friendly environment.
Dhillon’s next venture was the Sky Blue Tavern, a brand-new sports bar in the city centre, in partnership with Coventry City Football Club. The Tavern is a hub for Sky Blues fans to meet and enjoy a drink, whether on matchdays or non-matchdays, and helps to generate revenue and support for the club. As one of the only dedicated sports bars in Coventry, football and sports fans can watch the latest action on big screens and in individual booths.
Dhillon’s Brewery have now also secured several catering contracts, including with Historic Coventry Trust, where they provide food and beverage operations at the historic Drapers’ Hall, as well as at other Trust locations.
The company’s vision and long-term growth plan continues to be focused on its close association with Coventry whilst securing further locations and contracts, to build a sustainable, profitable business model whilst continuing Dal’s original passion for brewing beautifully crafted beer.
