Tiger Trailers -

Local Economy of the Future Business of the Year

Giving back to the community has become a hugely significant area of focus for Tiger over the last few years, which began with the Tiger Safety Team launch in 2021, since which time it has delivered a life-saving HGV safety message to over 1,200 school children.

Tiger Trailers’ turnover has increased exceptionally year on year since its founding ten years ago, and in recent years has climbed from £44.2m in 2020 to £96.4m in 2023. During this time, sales have increased across all areas of the business, including new product manufacture, trailer rental activities, and spare parts, with notable growth coming from Tiger’s refrigerated product range and the rigid truck bodywork solutions it builds. Year on year, the firm has continued to attract new customers and its confirmed order book goes from strength to strength, with a strong sales pipeline putting Tiger in an extremely positive position for the remainder of 2024 and beyond, underpinning the company’s ambitious growth plans.

Over the next three to five years, Tiger intends to further develop its modern and purpose-built factory and office facility in Winsford, Cheshire, to facilitate increased production output, which will in turn create additional job opportunities. Tiger’s temperature-controlled products will continue to form an increasing focus over the coming years, and the company also seeks to further widen its export markets, which currently include Ireland, northern Europe, and America.

Long term financial sustainability is maintained through continual reinvestment of a significant proportion of each year’s profits, in parallel with ongoing investment in equipment, facilities, training, skills, morale and retention. In a market that is placing increased emphasis on the environment and sustainability, such as evident with electric trucks, Tiger’s supply chain and other teams continue to increasingly procure sustainable components, and a tree is planted for each product sold. Additionally on the ESG front, Tiger has to date installed 640kW of solar panels on its factory roof.

Tiger provides work experience through The Prince’s Trust’s TEAM placement programme and also supports the Trust by participating in mock interviews. The company regularly welcomes charities to its site and raises donations through Cheshire Community Foundation membership, and hosts motorcycle safety events from local emergency services. Tiger also engages with local people and businesses such as by sponsoring Winsford Town Mayor’s Oskars awards. Additionally, the firm supports Veterans Into Logistics who retrain ex-military into careers driving trucks, and the company is a member of Women In Transport, actively seeking to promote the industry to females. Raising awareness of and funds for a children’s hospice, promoting mental health support to its own employees, and sponsoring inclusivity events such as Winsford Pride also come under Tiger’s broad community activities

Company Growth

On the back of the success of the brewery site and events, Dal then set his sights on expanding both the range of products on offer and the footprint of the business. In December 2021, Dal agreed a 20-year lease on Christchurch Spire in Coventry city centre. The unique venue serves Dhillon’s beers and ales on tap, as well as offering hot drinks and food, to create a family friendly environment.

Dhillon’s next venture was the Sky Blue Tavern, a brand-new sports bar in the city centre, in partnership with Coventry City Football Club. The Tavern is a hub for Sky Blues fans to meet and enjoy a drink, whether on matchdays or non-matchdays, and helps to generate revenue and support for the club. As one of the only dedicated sports bars in Coventry, football and sports fans can watch the latest action on big screens and in individual booths.

Dhillon’s Brewery have now also secured several catering contracts, including with Historic Coventry Trust, where they provide food and beverage operations at the historic Drapers’ Hall, as well as at other Trust locations.

The company’s vision and long-term growth plan continues to be focused on its close association with Coventry whilst securing further locations and contracts, to build a sustainable, profitable business model whilst continuing Dal’s original passion for brewing beautifully crafted beer.
