Frasers of Egerton -
Green Innovation Business of the Year
“Frasers’ strong commitment to sustainability has been recognised with numerous awards, including the ‘Kent Sustainable Food and Drink Award’ (2022), ‘Commitment to the Environment Award’ (2021), and ‘Sustainable Supply Chain Award’ (2023).”
Frasers of Egerton, members of Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, is a multi-award-winning eco-estate and hospitality venue in the heart of the idyllic Kent countryside, operating with a strong environmental ethos with sustainability at its core.
Sustainable Agriculture, Local Sourcing
The estate is a wildlife haven, transitioned over 35 years to low-intensity grassland – a summer suckler cow herd and winter sheep to protect this landscape. Collaborating with The Kent Wildlife Trust and South East Rivers Trust, they improve habitats and ecosystems breeding Great Crested newts, partridges, and freshwater shrimp, indicating excellent water quality. No synthetic chemicals are used. Ingredients are foraged and sourced locally.
Eco-friendly Products, Packaging
The estate markets its produce using biodegradable and recyclable packaging, reducing waste and plastic pollution.
Estate and Kitchen Gardens
Ingredients are harvested from the estate, kitchen and cutting gardens, minimising food miles and supporting a ‘Field to Fork’ initiative. A ‘preordering’ system minimises food waste. Carbon emissions from weddings and events are strictly controlled by locally sourced food and drinks, harnessing renewable energy, offering clients complementary use of equipment for their event to minimise resource usage and carbon. All purchasing supply chains are short.
Renewable Energy Integration
The estate uses 55% renewable energy in the form of solar, ground and air-source heat pumps. Rainwater is harvested for use in WCs and gardens. Single-use plastics are avoided, cardboard is composted which is used as a base for our no-dig vegetable and plant growing, a closed composting system is used and kitchen rapeseed oil is upcycled for bio-fuel.
Sustainable Tourism and Eco-friendly Accommodation
Frasers offers luxury, environmentally sound accommodation in converted redundant farm buildings – harnessing renewable energy, LED lighting, and high levels of insulation.
Innovation in Waste Management
Frasers excels in waste management with comprehensive recycling and composting systems. Food waste is composted and used to enrich their farm’s soil – they partner with local waste management companies to process non-compostable waste environmentally. Community Engagement and Education Frasers is a community leader in sustainability, engaging the local community and schools through educational workshops and events focused on sustainable living. These initiatives raise environmental awareness and inspire greener practices, extending their impact beyond immediate operations.
Award Winners
Frasers’ strong commitment to sustainability has been recognised with numerous awards, including the ‘Kent Sustainable Food and Drink Award’ (2022), ‘Commitment to the Environment Award’ (2021), and ‘Sustainable Supply Chain Award’ (2023). They also received ‘Highly Commended’ in the ‘Sustainable Change Maker Award’ (2023) and are part of the Booking.com ‘Travel Sustainable’ programme. Business owner Lisa-Jane Fraser is proud to have been named Businesswoman of the Year, Small Business, and Best of Kent 2023 by Business Awards Ashford, and to have achieved Bronze and Silver Awards for Excellence 2023-2024 from The Beautiful South Awards. In conclusion Frasers of Egerton’s dedication to renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly hospitality, and innovative waste management makes them a deserving candidate for the Green Innovation Business of the Year award.
CASE STUDIES
Company Growth
On the back of the success of the brewery site and events, Dal then set his sights on expanding both the range of products on offer and the footprint of the business. In December 2021, Dal agreed a 20-year lease on Christchurch Spire in Coventry city centre. The unique venue serves Dhillon’s beers and ales on tap, as well as offering hot drinks and food, to create a family friendly environment.
Dhillon’s next venture was the Sky Blue Tavern, a brand-new sports bar in the city centre, in partnership with Coventry City Football Club. The Tavern is a hub for Sky Blues fans to meet and enjoy a drink, whether on matchdays or non-matchdays, and helps to generate revenue and support for the club. As one of the only dedicated sports bars in Coventry, football and sports fans can watch the latest action on big screens and in individual booths.
Dhillon’s Brewery have now also secured several catering contracts, including with Historic Coventry Trust, where they provide food and beverage operations at the historic Drapers’ Hall, as well as at other Trust locations.
The company’s vision and long-term growth plan continues to be focused on its close association with Coventry whilst securing further locations and contracts, to build a sustainable, profitable business model whilst continuing Dal’s original passion for brewing beautifully crafted beer.
