CASE STUDIES

Blunt & Brave Ltd

Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce is proud to nominate Blunt & Brave Ltd for the Digital Revolution Award. In 2024, the team launched their ground-breaking Digital Academy, responding directly to the urgent need for accessible digital skills, creative opportunities, and inclusive arts education across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Blunt & Brave identified several key challenges driving their transformation. First, a lack of accessible digital learning spaces for young people, particularly those from underserved or neurodiverse communities. Second, the growing divide between traditional arts education and emerging digital technologies. These challenges informed the development of a new model — one that blends technology with creativity and prioritises accessibility, diversity and community impact.

The result was a series of innovative digital programmes combining virtual reality, augmented reality, podcast production, and digital storytelling.

One standout initiative was the Coventry Creative Tech Summer Camp, which engaged young people aged 9 to 17 in immersive content creation. From building AR experiences to producing podcasts, participants gained real-world digital skills within a creative and supportive environment.

Blunt & Brave’s transformation has not only changed how they deliver creative education but has also influenced the broader cultural landscape. Their approach to embedding digital tools within traditional creative practice has redefined what community-led arts programming can look like.

Through partnerships with organisations such as Warwickshire Libraries and Warwick Schools Foundation, their Digital Academy has delivered sessions in schools, libraries, and arts festivals, significantly broadening access to digital culture.

The Sound Labs at Warwick Schools Home Festival are a perfect example. These interactive Foley sound design workshops allowed participants to explore sound art in a hands-on, tech-enabled environment. This approach, which centres engagement and exploration, has helped foster a new wave of creativity rooted in both innovation and accessibility.

Technology has directly enhanced productivity within the business. Blunt & Brave’s scalable model allows them to deliver high-quality workshops with relatively low overheads by using existing community infrastructure. This efficiency, combined with the use of digital platforms and modular programming, has enabled them to expand rapidly while maintaining impact and quality.

They have also embedded sustainability into their digital practices, reducing material waste and encouraging eco-conscious creativity. The programmes consistently result in tangible digital outcomes, such as podcasts, immersive AR experiences and interactive games. These outputs not only showcase participant talent but also serve as digital assets that extend the reach and legacy of each project.

By fostering diverse mentorship, championing neurodivergent voices, and putting young people at the centre of innovation, Blunt & Brave have created a model for how digital transformation can drive both social impact and creative excellence. Their ability to adapt, engage and inspire through technology makes them a standout candidate for the Digital Revolution Award.

Company Growth

On the back of the success of the brewery site and events, Dal then set his sights on expanding both the range of products on offer and the footprint of the business. In December 2021, Dal agreed a 20-year lease on Christchurch Spire in Coventry city centre. The unique venue serves Dhillon’s beers and ales on tap, as well as offering hot drinks and food, to create a family friendly environment.

Dhillon’s next venture was the Sky Blue Tavern, a brand-new sports bar in the city centre, in partnership with Coventry City Football Club. The Tavern is a hub for Sky Blues fans to meet and enjoy a drink, whether on matchdays or non-matchdays, and helps to generate revenue and support for the club. As one of the only dedicated sports bars in Coventry, football and sports fans can watch the latest action on big screens and in individual booths.

Dhillon’s Brewery have now also secured several catering contracts, including with Historic Coventry Trust, where they provide food and beverage operations at the historic Drapers’ Hall, as well as at other Trust locations.

The company’s vision and long-term growth plan continues to be focused on its close association with Coventry whilst securing further locations and contracts, to build a sustainable, profitable business model whilst continuing Dal’s original passion for brewing beautifully crafted beer.
