What’s A Chamber of Commerce

WHAT'S A CHAMBER OF COMMERCE?

INTRODUCING THE NETWORK

Each Chamber of Commerce is a local hub with access to a rich tapestry of business support.

There are 52 Chambers of Commerce in the UK, Accredited by the British Chambers of Commerce. Together, we make up a strong network of trusted champions of businesses, places, and global trade. We represent over 70,000 businesses of all shapes, sizes and sectors and these employ over six million people across the UK, so we have a pretty loud voice!

Each Accredited Chamber of Commerce is:

  • an independent SME
  • a non-profit organisation
  • a private limited company
  • owned by its members
  • committed to supporting UK business

No two Chambers of Commerce are the same. Each is structured and resourced to best deliver business support to its region. For example, some regions are urban and city-based while others are rural. Some rely on tourism and hospitality while others are leading the UK’s manufacturing and export efforts. Throughout the Chamber Network, we have experts specific to YOUR landscape and business support needs.

ENCOURAGING ENTERPRISE AND GROWTH

How accredited chambers can help

Economic growth must be a core objective for any government, irrespective of its political leaning, in order to drive prosperity for people across the United Kingdom. At its heart, this growth must be driven by local communities and the businesses within them. So, how do Accredited Chambers drive this growth?

The way businesses are supported has evolved over the years and the Chamber Network has consistently provided practical support to help all businesses trade and prosper locally, nationally, and globally.

SOLUTIONS TO HELP YOUR BUSINESS

WHAT TYPE OF BUSINESS SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE?

Our business support Network is the only one that helps British businesses build relationships on every level. In other words, no other membership organisation can compete!

There’s a Chamber of Commerce dedicated to every region of the UK. That means we’re uniquely placed to help businesses of every size and sector. From micro one-person businesses to our country’s largest employers, we’re all in it together, locally, nationally and globally.

We’re so much more than a UK network. Did you know there’s a wider international community too? Well, British Chambers of Commerce represent our members in every continent around the globe. You can find more information here.

Every Chamber offers International Trade advice and services. This includes customs declaration certification and documentation. So, if you import or export goods and services, or if you’d like to start, you’ll be needing your Chamber.

Every Chamber of Commerce and its members are represented centrally by British Chambers of Commerce (BCC). We’re all apolitical and independent of government. However, the BCC provides a respected voice to the business communities they represent. Based in Westminster, this ensures our priorities and concerns are heard in the corridors of power.
