Policy Manager – Economics

We are seeking an experienced policy manager to drive our economics function.

You’ll provide evidence-based analysis, commentary and advice, develop compelling policy positions, and lead on engagement with government departments and other stakeholders such as HMT and the Bank of England.

Bringing excellent communication, numeracy, critical thinking and problem solving skills, you will work with a high degree of autonomy and preferably have some experience of working in commercial partnerships or consultancy.

The Policy Manager – Economics role is a vital part of the BCC team.

It involves leading BCC’s economic thought leadership and policy work on access to finance and tax.

The postholder will play a key role in BCC’s external engagement with government, the media, and other stakeholders as well as internal engagement with BCC colleagues and the Chamber network.

The post-holder will be expected to be flexible and able to contribute or lead on economics and other policy issues as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Contribute to the organisation’s economic initiatives, e.g. reviewing assumptions and outputs from outsourced economic modelling work managed by the BCC Research team, and producing a regular economic outlook report based on the modelling results.

Provide evidence-based analysis and commentary on key UK economic indicators and present the latest economic trends to key stakeholders, including the Bank of England, HM Treasury and the Chamber network.

Deliver strategic advice and analysis to support the development of compelling policy positions to take to decision makers, e.g. the impact of policy proposals on government finances

Provide content on economic issues to support the work of the BCC’s Director General, President and senior colleagues in their external engagement.

Be the lead author of the annual HMT Budget submission and other policy consultations as required, ensuring they have sound evidence, compelling arguments and are consistent with BCC positions.

Lead on engagement with government departments and other stakeholders such as HMT and the Bank of England

Ensure the Chamber Network is involved in developing our economic policy by managing and growing the membership of the BCC Policy Group Economic and Tax Group.

Advise local Chambers, and BCC teams on economic policy positions to support their engagement with stakeholders.

Lead, or contribute to, other policy issues as required.
