North East And Ghana Chambers Announced As UK And International Winners
The UK and International Chambers of the Year for 2023 have been announced at the British Chambers of Commerce Annual General Meeting.
North East Chamber beat strong competition from seven other Chambers of Commerce to land the prestigious title of UK Chamber of the Year.
Judges said the Chamber had continued to build on the great support it had provided to its members throughout the pandemic. Its focussed and data driven approach won praise, as did the broad and diverse range of its initiatives alongside the effort put into developing relationships with the national and international network.
The International Chamber Of The Year, sponsored by BSI, was awarded to the Ghana Chamber of Commerce, which has more than doubled its membership over the past two years.
Judges were wowed by the Chamber’s keen eye for detail and the way it had wired into the issues that really made a difference to its members. They praised its hard work to promote trade with the UK, and its impressive advocacy work around tax laws.
Sarah Howard, Chair of the BCC, said:
“Every year the quality of the work carried out by Chambers, supporting businesses in the UK and overseas, seems to step up a notch.
“There is no doubt the UK and global economies still face tough weeks and months ahead, but businesses can be reassured that the Chambers will have their backs and continue to fight their corner.
“The North East and Ghana Chambers should take huge pride in these awards, which were won in the face of incredibly tough competition. Congratulations to you both.”
The Chamber Business Awards, now in their 20th year, are one of the showpieces of the business calendar, highlighting the role that Chambers play in assisting firms to deliver growth and prosperity for the UK and local communities. The awards provide an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the Chamber Network, and the vital support Chambers provide to businesses.
