As an opening for a new Marketing Executive presents itself in the BCC Communications team, we sit down with outgoing staff member Pip Benton to pick her brains and give potential candidates an insight as to what to expect from the role.
Tell us about your role at the BCC?
I oversee the BCC Social Media strategy, website performance and production of assets; both in house and by briefing external agencies.
The development of assets has ranged from videos, animations, brochures and infographics for our flagship events - Annual Conference, Chamber Awards, International Trade Summit - to outputs on our leading Research, and for campaign related activity with the launch of the People Campaign and Brexit Hub. Had the opportunity to work on national branding campaigns too!
Another part of this role consists of working alongside teams across the whole organisation ensuring our content is up to date and best presented for our network and for key stakeholders.
What was your highlight and most challenging moment at BCC?
My highlight would have to be developing the social media strategy for the BCC and closely monitoring the ongoing reporting and best practice that is associated with achieving favourable results on our channels.
Most challenging, well 2019 was a crazy year - juggling upcoming events, ongoing Brexit deadlines and a General Election definitely kept me on my toes!
What have you enjoyed the most about working here?
The people! A small but close-knit, friendly team that covers a vast volume of work.
What sort of person might enjoy working here?
Someone who has a passion for digital marketing, likes to be challenged, enjoys working in a fast paced environment and wants to be at the forefront of breaking issues facing British Businesses.
What does a typical day look like?
As cliché as it sounds, no two days are the same! There is a mix of planning and executing routine proactive content but also the excitement of reactive, adhoc projects as well. Also working in a GREAT comms team!
What advice would you give anyone who might consider working here?
This is a great opportunity to implement your existing technical digital skills as well project management and creative opportunities. You will gain a tremendous amount of experience and work on some great projects as well!
