The Rapid Riser

“They are still the only UK manufacturer and garden room supplier that has a fully immersive, Augmented Reality configurator.”
SoConnect, members of Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, was founded after Campbell Fraser, fed up with the disjointed telecoms service businesses received, knew there could be a better way. He felt that companies needed seamless communication, fast internet and bespoke managed services that prioritised ‘happy customers, always’.
Since its inception, SoConnect has experienced significant growth and success. Starting with just one employee in 2011, the company has now expanded to a team of 40 IT, telecoms, and cyber security experts, who all share the belief that a seamlessly connected workforce is a productive workforce. SoConnect provides best-in-class support to businesses of all sizes, ranging from SMEs to global brands. The company’s revenue has grown from zero in 2011 to £5.75 million, with 75% of that being contracted recurring revenue in 2022/23.
The sustainable business performance of SoConnect is evident in its continuous growth over the past five years. In 2018 the company achieved a turnover of £2.7 million and since then, it has experienced a remarkable 200% increase in turnover, to just under £5 million in 2021/22. This growth has been a result of successfully meeting the targets set in SoConnect’s three-year strategy.
The company has set its sights on even more growth by 2025, with a target of a £10 million turnover and an EBITDA of 16%. This will be achieved both through organic growth within the customer base and also by acquiring new customers, employing a more targeted approach to marketing and account management.
Despite starting from zero revenue in 2011, SoConnect delivered a turnover of £4.92 million in 2021/22 and is projected to achieve £5.79 million in 2022/23 with a 13% EBITDA, of which 75% is recurring contracted revenue.
Over the past year, SoConnect’s team has continued to expand. From employing 22 staff in their central Borders office at Tweed Horizons, they now have a team of 40 IT experts and support staff across two offices in the Scottish Borders and Edinburgh. The company has made significant investments in the workforce, offering access to training and professional development courses to foster expertise and excellence in their respective fields. The positive feedback received from clients reflects the team’s knowledge, professionalism, and expertise.
With an integrated team, an improved management structure, and a refreshed brand identity, SoConnect is poised for further growth. Behind-the-scenes innovation, driven by an operating plan, has been a catalyst for efficiency, motivation, and outstanding performance. This approach not only focuses on delivering targets and goals but also promotes a “one team culture” and ensures that staff feel valued, which ultimately maximises customer satisfaction.

Company Growth
On the back of the success of the brewery site and events, Dal then set his sights on expanding both the range of products on offer and the footprint of the business. In December 2021, Dal agreed a 20-year lease on Christchurch Spire in Coventry city centre. The unique venue serves Dhillon’s beers and ales on tap, as well as offering hot drinks and food, to create a family friendly environment.
Dhillon’s next venture was the Sky Blue Tavern, a brand-new sports bar in the city centre, in partnership with Coventry City Football Club. The Tavern is a hub for Sky Blues fans to meet and enjoy a drink, whether on matchdays or non-matchdays, and helps to generate revenue and support for the club. As one of the only dedicated sports bars in Coventry, football and sports fans can watch the latest action on big screens and in individual booths.
Dhillon’s Brewery have now also secured several catering contracts, including with Historic Coventry Trust, where they provide food and beverage operations at the historic Drapers’ Hall, as well as at other Trust locations.
The company’s vision and long-term growth plan continues to be focused on its close association with Coventry whilst securing further locations and contracts, to build a sustainable, profitable business model whilst continuing Dal’s original passion for brewing beautifully crafted beer.
