The Rapid Riser

“Fibrus will continue to grow in a manner which is sustainable for the environment, through using a sustainable fibre network, committing to an electrified vehicle fleet and powering the network by renewable energy.”
Fibrus, members of Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry, are the National Winners of the Rapid Riser award at the Chamber Business Awards 2023.
Fibrus is on a mission to bring full fibre broadband to digitally deprived and underserved areas of the UK. They have grown exceptionally since their launch in 2019 and particularly in the past 12 months, having now passed over 300,000 homes. Fibrus has grown in financial terms, trebled their revenue and trebled the customer base in the past 12 months.
Examples of their extraordinary growth include:
- They have over 480 employees, having hired nearly 200 people since January 2023, and they are now hiring on average 19 people each month.
- In 2020 they secured the Project Stratum contract in NI, which was a £197m investment to deliver broadband to 80,000 NI homes and businesses.
- They paved the way for Project Gigabit in Great Britain (GB), winning the £108m contract in 2023, to connect 60,000 Cumbrian homes, connecting the first customers in just six months.
- They were awarded 4 ISO accreditations in 12 months, marking the business as a leader in the UK telecoms sector.
- They continually strive to push the boundaries, bringing the fastest broadband speeds to NI (via XGS-PON technology) and growing their product range. They recently launched a new ‘Total Home Wi-Fi’ product, in partnership with Amazon eero, transforming the broadband landscape in rural areas.
They have a commitment to continued growth and long-term financial sustainability.
They plan to connect one million homes across NI and England (they have recently announced 40 new locations), and they are assessing opportunities in Scotland.
The Belfast Telegraph described Fibrus as having “lightning-fast growth” following the win of Project Gigabit in Cumbria. As a start-up in 2019, Fibrus has grown to over 480 employees; and has grown their network, grown their customer base and grown their brand.
Fibrus’ proudest accomplishments lie in the positive impact the company has on individuals, communities, and businesses. Network connectivity drastically improves the ability of rural communities to retain talent, foster entrepreneurship, and live, work, and do business in the area, providing families with the same opportunities they would have in cities.
Fibrus will continue to grow in a manner which is sustainable for the environment, through using a sustainable fibre network, committing to an electrified vehicle fleet and powering the network by renewable energy. The business also demonstrates a holistic approach to connecting communities, through offering funding to local organisations (over £200k to date) to alleviate digital poverty and support sports clubs.

Company Growth
On the back of the success of the brewery site and events, Dal then set his sights on expanding both the range of products on offer and the footprint of the business. In December 2021, Dal agreed a 20-year lease on Christchurch Spire in Coventry city centre. The unique venue serves Dhillon’s beers and ales on tap, as well as offering hot drinks and food, to create a family friendly environment.
Dhillon’s next venture was the Sky Blue Tavern, a brand-new sports bar in the city centre, in partnership with Coventry City Football Club. The Tavern is a hub for Sky Blues fans to meet and enjoy a drink, whether on matchdays or non-matchdays, and helps to generate revenue and support for the club. As one of the only dedicated sports bars in Coventry, football and sports fans can watch the latest action on big screens and in individual booths.
Dhillon’s Brewery have now also secured several catering contracts, including with Historic Coventry Trust, where they provide food and beverage operations at the historic Drapers’ Hall, as well as at other Trust locations.
The company’s vision and long-term growth plan continues to be focused on its close association with Coventry whilst securing further locations and contracts, to build a sustainable, profitable business model whilst continuing Dal’s original passion for brewing beautifully crafted beer.
