The Policy Manager role is a vital part of the BCC team.
It involves leading BCC’s thought leadership and policy work on a range of issues across the business environment.
The postholder will play a key role in BCC’s external engagement with government, the media, and other stakeholders as well as internal engagement with BCC colleagues and the Chamber network.
The post-holder will be expected to be flexible and able to contribute or lead on policy issues as required.
Provide evidence-based analysis and commentary on a range of policy areas and present to key stakeholders.
Deliver strategic advice and analysis to support the development of compelling policy positions to take to decision makers.
Provide content on policy issues to support the work of the BCC’s Director General, President and senior colleagues in their external engagement.
Develop and manage groups of expert stakeholders to help develop BCC policy positions.
Contribute to the organisation’s research initiatives, e.g. reviewing assumptions and outputs from work managed by the BCC Research team, and producing reports based on the results.
Lead on engagement with government departments and other stakeholders in relation to specific policy areas.
Advise local Chambers, and BCC teams on policy positions to support their engagement with stakeholders.
Lead, or contribute to, other policy issues as required.
Essential
Undergraduate Degree or higher, or other relevant professional qualification.
Demonstrable experience of dealing with matters relating to public policy, including developing policy proposals.
Able to communicate (both in verbal and written form) on complex policy issues to non-specialist audiences.
High level of numeracy and writing skills and excellent attention to detail.
Adopts a critical thinking and analytical approach to problem solving.
An enthusiastic self-starter with excellent inter-personal and collaborative skills, able to work with high degree of autonomy, manage priorities and workload within objectives set by the Head of Policy.

Experience of working in commercial partnerships and/or experience in consultancy
Contract type: Permanent
Salary: £39,000 – £52,500
Reporting line: Deputy Director – Public Policy
Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, full-time.
Location: BCC office in St James’s Park, with option to work from home up to 2 days a week.
