Businesses already operating with social responsibility in mind

17/03/08 | 15:20

Commenting on the launch of the Conservative's report into corporate social responsibility, published today, David Frost, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce, said:

"Businesses recognise that they have a responsibility to the communities in which they operate. However, most of them are already taking on vast amounts of social responsibility and this is driven by personal conviction rather than legislation.

"With this in mind, it is concerning that businesses could be faced with more burdensome regulation. A move to legislate further in this area would only serve to damage the competitiveness of UK plc at a time when businesses are already struggling against a tougher economic climate."
