Campaigning on behalf of British business
David Frost, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce, said:
"Currently far too many young people leave education and go straight onto long term welfare or the dole. The significant number of migrants arriving in the UK who are willing to work have ensured business has been largely protected from the adverse effects of this welfare dependency. However, the present situation is clearly not sustainable.
"Businesses want to employ local people but cannot do so because of a lack of both skills and aptitude. It is an imperative that all political parties focus on ensuring those currently out of work receive the skills they need and that the benefit system is reformed to incentivise young people to work."
The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) is the National Voice of Local Business. The BCC sits at the heart of a powerful nationwide network of Accredited Chambers of Commerce serving business across the UK, which employ over five million people.
