Export Control Organisation

The Export Control Organisation has launched a short awareness film which aims to briefly and simply explain export controls and the need for companies and individuals to take action to obtain a licence if necessary.

Watch the film by clicking here..

The film is aimed principally at business customers especially working in sales and marketing, shipping or operations and directors who might only be vaguely aware that export controls are relevant to them and their work. It is also relevant to staff working in export control departments as well as the general public.

Export Controls impact on a wide range of industries and sectors, not just the arms and defence sectors.

John Doddrell, Director of the Export Control Organisation said, “This an exciting project for ECO and an opportunity for us to engage with our customers and the general public in a new way”.

The film delivers the export control message in an accessible, visual way.

The film complements, ECO’s range of services, information and advice which incorporate:

  • Providing an efficient and responsible licensing system
  • SPIRE - A single access database for all licence applications
  • Licensing and Rating Advice
  • Provision of web-based databases: Goods Checker and OGEL Checker

An advisory service on licensability of goods - the Rating Enquiry Service

  • Making Export Control Understandable
  • Provision of a range of guidance documents

Delivery of Training and Seminars programme

  • Updating and Informing
  • Guidance issued via our website and our regular Notices to Exporters bulletins on export control issues.

The film is accessible via BERR’s YouTube channel  - http://www.youtube.com/berrtube - as well as embedded into ECO’s website.

The UKTI Video Production Unit worked with ECO to produce the film. The unit was selected due to its experience of the defence sector and its work with UKTI in promoting trade more broadly.

The Export Control Organisation, part of the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), is the UK’s central export licensing authority. We are responsible for legislating, assessing and issuing export licences for military goods, dual-use goods, products used for repression or torture and radioactive sources.
