Seminar series with the Department for Business

The BCC has teamed up with the Department for Business and ACAS (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) to provide advice to businesses on the new legislation for resolving employment problems which comes into effect on 6th April.  The new arrangements will provide the framework for a more efficient, flexible and simpler way of resolving problems in the workplace.

John Dunsmure Managing Director BCC commented; “Improving the access to Government advice is vital if we want to see better understanding of, and compliance with employment law. Most small businesses want to comply with the law but it is a complex area to understand fully. These seminars will be extremely useful for all businesses.”

The free seminars will be run in a number of cities across the country and will provide businesses with invaluable advice on:

  • The new, simpler and more flexible system for handling workplace discipline, dismissal and grievance issues in the workplace which comes into effect on 6th April 2009
  • Reducing paperwork and saving time and money meeting employment law obligations by using Government guidance including legally compliant online tools covering Written Statements and Contracts, Flexible Working, the National Minimum Wage and Redundancy.

At each seminar there will also be Q&A and networking session to further enhance understanding of this topic.

Better Regulation Executive Chairman, William Sargent said: “Free and clear advice to businesses on how to meet their responsibilities can help them cut out unnecessary costs and save them valuable time. The employment law guidance programme has succeeded beyond expectations by helping to save businesses £418 million when dealing with everyday employment issues.

Changes to dispute resolution will help further by ensuring more workplace disputes are resolved quickly. These seminars will contribute to the vital task of making sure businesses understand the new rules”
