Swine Flu Microsite

Swine flu could have serious consequences for small and medium size businesses so ensuring your business is properly prepared is essential

Case Study - HSBC

HSBC UK

At HSBC we view it as essential that customer service and support is maintained no matter what the issue.  As such every site, customer facing or otherwise, has its own Business Recovery Plan covering issues such as alternative sites for staff to work at, secure remote working arrangements and essential contact numbers to ensure that teams can still connect with each other.

When the Avian Flu pandemic  was threatening a couple of years ago, HSBC took action and made provision for all staff and their families to have access to Tamiflu. As such, we are well prepared for the more recent Swine Flu.  A dedicated intranet site has been set-up and a booklet produced giving staff advice on hygiene at home and at work, travel, nutrition and what type of supplies should be stockpiled.  The information outlines how the virus is spread and what the symptoms are along with what to do if a colleague displays the symptoms.

All HSBC sites have been issued with antibacterial wipes for phones and desks and dispensers of sanitising hand rub to minimise the spread of the virus.  The use of these is encouraged through various notices displayed in the premises.

Customers should be reassured that every effort has been made to ensure that HSBC will continue to operate.  Mark Haines Head of Corporate Banking in the Thames Valley said “Our teams are committed to providing the highest possible levels of customer service. We are well prepared for any crisis and our Business Recovery Plans are proven and robust.”
