Businesspeople recognise that the planning system has an important purpose in shaping our cities, towns and countryside. But from a business perspective the system in its current form has developed into an overly complex, costly, and inconsistent process that discourages investment.

The survey found that planning costs for business cannot be dismissed as ‘relatively small’ as some have attempted to do. Specialist consultants, legal fees, and a range of other costs and charges have combined to make the system an expensive process for businesses.
