Businesses benefit from workers taking beach holidays

20/08/10 | 10:20

Beach holidays are the best return on investment (ROI) for businesses over any other vacation, according to new research.

A recent survey has found that managers are the most likely to return from a holiday more productive, with 13% more managers than non-managers reporting using vacations to completely switch off, put aside their workplace responsibilities and return to work more relaxed.

Commenting on the study, industrial organisational psychologist, Dr. Michael Bashshur, said: “Managers and non-managers alike derive benefits from taking a holiday, which is rarely associated with ROI.

“Taking holidays allows employees to recharge their batteries and helps reduce depression and eliminate stress, allowing employees to be more productive when they ultimately return to the workplace.”

The research also revealed that one week vacations are just as good at generating efficiency in the workplace as two week vacations, with 66% of respondents saying one week and 63% saying two week holidays make them somewhat or significantly more efficient upon returning to work.
