The Government has to show more creative thinking to resolve congestion problem

16/07/08 | 15:40

Commenting on Ruth Kelly's announcement today that more hard shoulders will be opened up to help reduce congestion, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce, David Frost, said:

"With the financial impact of congestion now costing UK businesses over £17 billion, opening up more hard shoulders is a positive move. However, this cannot be the long term solution to solving a major congestion problem on a decrepit road network.

"We need extra capacity and that means improving road infrastructure. The Government has to show a bit more creative thinking on this issue, backing it up with a genuine ambition to resolve what is a worsening situation."
