British Chambers of Commerce welcomes Conservatives' tax proposals

03/07/08 | 14:59

Responding to tax proposals put forward by the Conservative Party today, British Chambers of Commerce Policy Adviser Brian Sloan, said:

"British businesses will welcome today's proposals by the Conservatives. The setting up of an Office of Tax Simplification is a long overdue initiative that is needed to free business from an overly complex system . Small businesses in particular are not only paying an increasing amount of tax, they are also being expected to administer the system on behalf of Government. This is burdensome and unfair.

"Removing the temptation from Government to announce knee-jerk tax changes can only be a good thing, so announcing a greater role for Parliament in scrutinising proposals before they reach the statute book will stabalise the relationship between business, Government and the tax system."
