Heathrow expansion is vital to progress of UK plc
25/06/08 | 16:06
Responding to news today that BAA's chief executive has warned that Heathrow is 'jam-packed' and in need of a third runway, British Chambers of Commerce Director General, David Frost, said:
"UK plc will suffer if we don't expand Heathrow and possibly other London or regional airports. It is short-sighted for politicians to suggest otherwise.
"Of course Business understands the need to protect the environment and that's why the British Chambers of Commerce have been calling for high-speed trains and improvements to our roads, not to mention all the work our members are doing to help improve the environment within their own firms.
"But simply refusing to listen to business and the needs of the economy on the issue of Heathrow expansion will hold back British business in the future, and I refuse to believe that the vast majority of people in the UK would want to see that happen."
