POOR TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE IS COSTING BUSINESS

15/11/07 | 09:24

Gareth Elliott, Policy Advisor at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said:

“It comes as no surprise that the UK transport system is failing. This year’s Road File, which puts the UK’s motorways at the bottom of an EU-25 league table, is yet further evidence of the impoverished state of the nation’s transport infrastructure.

Our Annual Transport Survey shows the increasing squeeze on small and medium sized businesses leaving them at an distinct competitive disadvantage. The cost of congestion to UK business now stands at a staggering £17.55 billion.

“With road travel remaining the principal means of transportation for businesses in Britain, it is economically vital that our road network can cater for them and that congestion levels are dramatically reduced.”
